Eco-Focused River Trips

At MFRE, we made a pledge to make our outfitting company the most green in the industry.  It has taken great effort, but it is well worth it, as we feel we have the most eco-friendly rafting business in the US.  Below are some of the steps we have taken to make our business as green as possible.  We believe in a larger mission, to educate all our clients on the virtues of not only living off the grid for a week, but to bring this knowledge home with them and use it in their daily lives. Our hope is that they make that connection with nature and want to protect it for future generations.

Salmon Conservation Efforts

We support Idaho Rivers United, a non-profit organization whose focus is Salmon Recovery on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. Click to watch our video about IRU!   Whether you are floating the Middle Fork of the Salmon River or the Main Salmon River, we want in the future to be able to see the salmon runs at10% of historic levels of 300,000 salmon. 

 

 

Recycle

We recycle everything from the trips (glass, plastic, aluminum etc.), including food waste which is fed to pigs at a local farm (www.alphaomegaranch.com) and/or composted or used in worm bins if the piggies have their fill.  We also compost for the Stanley Community Garden.

 

We purchased a 60 gallon waste vegetable oil tank through Golden Fuel Systems to burn used cooking oil from the Mountain Village Restaurant in Stanley in our Ford F350 Diesel truck used to transport our equipment to/from the river.

 

 

Leave No Trace

We follow Leave No Trace Ethics.  Everything that is brought into the river corridor is taken out with us. We always leave camp and lunch spots cleaner than we found them by sweeping the area for any trash, and smoothing out tent footprints and scattering unburned firewood. 

Donations of Trips

We donate proceeds from trips every year for non-profits we support such as The Wilderness Society.  We also donate a trip for two for Trout Unlimited fo their auction on in Seattle.  We also donate to all sorts of causes so please contact us if you think it would be a good fit.  Please come join these great organization raise money for their cause.
