Bert Loper Boat in Grand Canyon, Arizona

October 1st, 2012

This is me sitting in Bert Loper’s Boat in Grand Canyon in May, 2012. It is rivetted steel and aluminum plates and weighs over 1 ton! Hard to believe it could make it down the river with any gear, but they did’nt need much, just bacon, flour and coffee.

Best, Ellsworth

Middle Fork Salmon River Fly Fishing Photos

September 27th, 2012

Here are some shots that Justi Campa took on the Sept 8-13, 2012 Middle Fork trip. This was a fishing trip so most shots are of fishing, but give you a good idea on the types of fishing boats we offer on these fishing trips in September.

Hope to see you in Stanley or on the Middle Fork Salmon River in 2013!

Main Salmon River Dory Adventures in Idaho

September 26th, 2012

Main Salmon River Dory Adventures in Idaho are available now for next summer. If you want to have an un-parraleled river experience, this is the way to go. We have two handmade dories available on most Main Salmon River launches. These dories are 18 feet long and fully hatched so that the compartments do not get wet. They are essentially dry boxes on the boat. Lost River Boatworks made our latest addition last summer. Her name is the “Sparrow” and she is the sleekest river dory you will see on the river. All other trips on the water look in awe at these gorgeous boats.

They are also the most fun to ride in as a passenger as the huge rocker makes for an incredible ride. We also have lodge based trips available so you can be sure to have a relaxing time at night. We prefer doing camping trips and sleeping under the stars, but the lodges are nice too!

Come join us in 2013 on a Main Salmon River dory adventure in Idaho. We would be happy to get you in touch with past travellers on these amazing river craft to tell you about their experience.

The river is waiting for you. We hope to see you in Salmon, Idaho for this amazing whitewater dory experience.

Fly Fishing the Middle Fork of the Salmon in Drift Boats

September 20th, 2012

There are be no argument against using the Hog Island drift boat on the Middle Fork in low water is the best solution to late season fishing. Most other companies stop using drift boats below 2 feet on the gage, but we have had no incidents or problems bringing our Hog Drift boats down the Middle Fork at any level, all the way down to 1.65 ft. We have had no repairs either and they have been remarkably durable. They are heavy, but knowing that we will not sink one or dent one every trip is a huge relief for everyone. Fly Fishing the Middle Fork of the Salmon in Drift Boats is fun, but doing it in a Hog Island Drift boat is the best.

The hog Island has Huge padded Casting braces and so easy to fish from. It is the cadillac out there.

Fly Fishing the Middle Fork of the Salmon in Hog Island Drift Boats with Middle Fork River Expeditions is a clear way to go, best guides and best equipment on the river.

But don;t let us be the judge, see our reviews on Trip Advisor for the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.

We hope to see you next summer and fall on the middle fork for Fly Fishing the Middle Fork of the Salmon in Drift Boats is the best way to fish on this river.

Happy Summer Solstice June 21, 2011

August 18th, 2012

We wish you a very Happy Summer Solstice, this longest day of the year. We hope the longest day of the year brings along some sunshine to Stanley as it has been a cold “La Nina” summer so far, with cooler than normal temperatures. This has helped the snowpack not melt so fast and we are having great water levels over 6 ft. for last 3-4 weeks. We have a June 29 launch with a couple spots available.

We hope to see you on the Middle Fork or Main Salmon Rivers this summer.

See you in Stanley!

Happy Thanksgiving

August 18th, 2012

We feel truly thankful for the abundant simple pleasures that offer themselves up every day, just for the taking. A perfect cup of coffee. Good music. A walk outside. A child’s hug. Birds at the feeder. Holding hands. A patch of sun and time to sit in it. A random act of kindness, given or received.

We are also deeply thankful for you, our travelers and friends. You inspire us every day with your openness to new experience, your curiosity about the world, your good spirits, and ultimately your wit and wisdom. Thank you so much for letting us share your journey.

With much appreciation, we wish you a very happy Thanksgiving!

Middle Fork Outfitters Association is an association for Middle Fork of the Salmon River Outfitters. The Middle Fork Outfitters Association helps build a cohesive group of outfitters for a single message from our industry as it is located in central Idaho in the Frank Church Wilderness of No Return. The Middle Fork Outfitters Association was started a few years ago with like minded outfitters coming together and making the protection of outfitting on the Middle Fork Salmon River a priority for the group. Middle Fork Outfitters Association members vary in personality but are united in protecting this american treasure. The Middle Fork Outfitters Association members are commited to it’s protection. All Middle Fork Outfitters Association members run high quality trips on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River.

We hope the efforts of the Middle Fork Outfitters Association will inspire the outfitters on other rivers to create an association for their benefit and one voice. The Main Salmon is a perfect example. They could create the Main Salmon Outfitters Association and have dates up on their homepage of all teh launches in which outfitters offer. One one-stop shop for dates on the Main Salmon. The Middle Fork Outfitters Association can inspire other river outfitters to do the same. Not just in Idaho, but the entire nation.

The Middle Fork Outfitters Association is a great resource and anyone interested in taking a multi river trip should contact the site. The more people know about the Middle Fork Outfitters Association the better
