The Shoshone Pithouse – Middle Fork of the Salmon River near Sun Valley, Idaho is the photo below. It is not actually from the Middle Fork but is a good picture of what the pithouses were like for the Shoshone in the Canyon. We see many pithouse depressions throughout the entire river corridor. We camp near them almost every night of the river trip.

We hope to see you in Stanley.

Best,
Ellsworth

I’m creating a Powerpoint for Mesa County School District 51 in Grand Junction, CO and need a good pithouse image. I like the Shoshone pithouse on the Middle Fork of the Salmon. May I use it for this educational, non-profit project? I will give appropriate credit, is there a specific photographer I should credit?

    Thanks!
